We have less than 30 days of school left, summer is coming! The school year felt extremely fast, I thought freshman year would feel much longer but it hasn’t, truly it’s been a breeze.
I am starting to think about summer goals, since, well, summer is so soon. Goals are definitely not my strong suit, they are something I need to work on. My problem has always been consistency, my mood is quite fluctuating; as a teenager’s mood should be. So finding achievable goals that work with my lack of a stable mood is tricky.
This year i started using habitica, it changed my life, seriously. It helped me make chores more fun and helped me get my baseline done everyday (basic hygiene, 3 meals, some exercise). I don’t wanna talk too much about habitica because I have a lot to say and I don’t want to bore you, but it has helped me achieve goals and routines.
The summer can be hard for me, a lack of structure means that i need to create my own; while going on summer trips and adventures. School is a great way for me to stimulate my constantly moving mind and to stop it from going down the wrong path. So with these goals I’m trying to make and accomplish, I want to take into consideration the lack of structure and try to adapt my routines to work even if i’m traveling, or very busy. Along with giving myself challenges throughout the day so I don’t go insane.
Since this is sort of just a first step in thinking about it, I want to share what some of these goals could be and why I chose them/what they consist of/ and how they can prepare me for sophomore year.
- #1 Exercise every day-
This is something I’ve been doing for awhile, and it’s been easy since I swim three times a week, go to the gym on every school day, and take sunny to the dog park on the weekends. But over the summer I wont have swimming, or gym so there goes some of the structure. I’m still not too sure how i’ll compensate for this but ideas include; Using our work out bench outside, Some sort of cardio to prepare myself for next year in swim (Could be running, biking, jump rope for all I care) I will have much more time to take sunny to the dog park, witch is about a 2 mile walk, and it’s truly a wonderful park.
- #2 Journal and blog frequently
Though I need to have my computer to post here, I still frequently use my journal. It fits in my pocket and I fill it with whatever is in my head. This is a pretty easy thing to do, you don’t need too much time and it has proved to be very good for my mental and emotional health. Id also like to update yall on my summer cause i have a feeling that i’ll have some pretty rad trips that would probably be more interesting than my usual rants.
- #3 Work on “school” work
Though I don’t have school, I already spend a good amount of time doing math (at khan academy) and working on my Spanish (either through flashcards or Duolingo). I also suppose the frequent writing could be considered working on my writing skills but that’s less structured. I’m currently in Geomently for highschool math, So I’m reviewing that course and then I will try to get ahead on algebra two so next year math wont hit as hard. I’m sure that I will become interested in other courses with the amount of free time i’ll have but for now those are it.
- #4 Continue to do that art thing
Art has always been a good stimulus for me, along with a great way to express myself, so I’d like to make sure I keep practicing and creating over summer, even if it’s just doodles in my pocket notebook. I try to post my art on youtube, I’m not that great at making videos and I don’t follow many trends but getting a few likes on something I spent time on feels good, so I want to keep posting on youtube too. I have a book I’ve been wanting to make, it’s a children’s book so mostly illustrations. I’d like to work on that but I feel very unprepared for that at the moment, hopefully more on that later. (ill link my YT channel and try to post more of my art here.)
- #5 Babysitting when possible
I have a kid I’ve been watching for awhile and I’m hoping to be able to help them over the summer, as being around them as a family, and the kid makes me very happy. This is also possibly a good money maker if i can pick up some other jobs when im free. This is something I have been excited for cause usually I cant watch him due to having swim practice.
- #6 Staying social…?
I mean this is generally supposed to be good for me and I will have more social energy since I wont be stuck around people for 8 hours a day. More time to hang out with friends and family hopefully. Though my friends tend to be very busy.
Other than this it’s really just trying to keep up the baseline, of eating, drinking water, and brushing and washing myself lol. I can’t really see this being something people would read; I’m aware it’s not that exciting of a topic. I’d like to use this blog as an outlet, a learning experience, and a way to share my thoughts with some family and friends. Hopefully random people on the internet who find what I talk about or create interesting. I’m still working on getting the website working well. It’s surprisingly difficult to create a website that functions but I guess that comes with the territory.
Thanks for reading and catch you next time!
